Dear All future parents and students of IES Kungsbacka
As 2020 nears its end and we reflect upon the trials and tribulations of an intensive year there is a little excitement, a light at the end of the tunnel and a great deal of anticipation about 2021… IES Kungsbacka will throw open its doors and welcome 720 students into the IES family, and I, of course, am so privileged to be able to lead it.
2020 has been tough on all of us, and we all deserve the chance to get some real rest and relaxation during these festive times. However, it is still a time to keep safe and stay healthy and I hope everyone keeps up the amazing show of respect and consideration shown by people in and around the Kungsbacka area to one another.
I also hope that 2021 will start with more activities opening up for children and adults - more sports events and concerts that we all miss terribly. I know that most schools feel that the Christmas spirit, Lucia and other end of term activities have been affected negatively this year, and students and parents miss the traditional sing alongs and huge assemblies with prize givings and end of year hugs. All this will hopefully return next year and IES Kungsbacka will bring a smile back on the face of Christmas.
I wish you all the best for 2021 and I hope your festive period is enjoyable and relaxing….we all deserve a little peace and quiet. Stay safe and healthy, and I hope to meet you all in the very near future.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Principal IES Kungsbacka
It is a great honour and privilege to be appointed as Principal of IES Kungsbacka and prepare the school for its grand opening in August 2021. I hope that I can build a school with an outstanding staff and fantastic facilities that will make Kungsbacka proud.
I have always been involved in education, leaving Glasgow University in 1984 and relocating in London. My big move to Sweden came in 1995 and since then I have worked with adults, F-9, Upper Secondary and Special Needs schools both as a teacher and as a Principal. However, it is only since I arrived at IES in 2018 that I finally had the opportunity to practice many of the ideas and beliefs that I think are essential for students to flourish and develop. Our ethos at IES -bilingualism, calm and safe environment and the high expectations and aspirations - are all essential building blocks for our new school and will be embraced strongly.
My background in sports has always been important to me as an educator and Principal. I believe in activity, team building and healthy competition as well as focus and feedback. My main objective is to lift our students to give them the ability to succeed and excel in whatever they decide to do after IES.
I hope we can work together, communicate effectively and help one another in the years to come and make IES Kungsbacka the school we all want it to be - a school where we are all in this together and stronger for that.
