Welcome to our digital tour

Welcome to our digital tour

The doors to IES Kungsbacka will open in August 2021. The school is located in central Kungsbacka and will have excellent facilities tailored for IES. In a few years, the school will have three classes for each year – from förskoleklass to year nine.

Are you curious what life is like at IES? Do take the time to do a digital tour in some of our other schools. Here you may find several films which we hope will provide you with insight of what we, our students and their parents consider to be important in creating a good school.

Principal Announcement

Dear All,

It is a great honour and privilege to be appointed as Principal of IES Kungsbacka and prepare the school for its grand opening in August 2021. I hope that I can build a school with an outstanding staff and fantastic facilities that will make Kungsbacka proud.

I have always been involved in education, leaving Glasgow University in 1984 and relocating in London. My big move to Sweden came in 1995 and since then I have worked with adults, F-9, Upper Secondary and Special Needs schools both as a teacher and as a Principal. However, it is only since I arrived at IES in 2018 that I finally had the opportunity to practice many of the ideas and beliefs that I think are essential for students to flourish and develop. Our ethos at IES -bilingualism, calm and safe environment and the high expectations and aspirations -  are all essential building blocks for our new school and will be embraced strongly.

My background in sports has always been important to me as an educator and Principal. I believe in activity, team building and healthy competition as well as focus and feedback. My main objective is to lift our students to give them the ability to succeed and excel in whatever they decide to do after IES.

I hope we can work together, communicate effectively and  help one another in the years to come and make IES Kungsbacka the school we all want it to be - a school where we are all in this together and stronger for that.

Important dates for admission to IES Kungsbacka

Here are some important dates for families in the queue for admission at IES Kungsbacka.

In early February 2021, we will be sending out offers of places at our school. We operate strictly on a “first come, first served” basis. We also take siblings into account in the admissions process. When you have received your notification of admission, we need to receive your response within ten days so that we can offer any vacant places to the next family in the queue. There will be further information in the notification of admission. You are welcome to contact us at with any questions you may have.

You can also take a digital tour on this website and look around some of our other schools to get an idea of what we, our students and their parents consider to be important in creating a good school.

We look forward to welcoming you to our new school.

From August families in Kungsbacka and the local area will be able to send their children to learn at a new bilingual school.

Internationella Engelska Skolan will open the school in an area where the municipality is also investing in a new sports arena and swimming centre.

The school will accommodate approximately 900 students when full, with three classes in each grade from F–9. However, initially the school will be smaller, and the number of classes in each year-group during the school’s first year will be decided based on where the interest is strongest.  There will not be a grade 9 during the first year as few families tend to wish to move a child in the final year of compulsory education as this can be a large adjustment.

Anna Sörelius Nordenborg, CEO of Internationella Engelska Skolan, said: “We are happy to be part of the municipality’s investment in schools and quality education for all students, regardless of background. This school will help to fill a local need while also welcoming students from the wider area. We are proud of the trust placed in us and we look forward to contributing to the municipality with a high quality school with an international profile."

Work has started to build a first class, modern school, with everything required to offer students the ideal learning environment.

We are also working to recruit a principal who will hand-pick outstanding teachers from Sweden and abroad, as they build their team.

Interested families are already able to place themselves in the queue for the school by visiting and filling out the form.  Students for each year-group will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

We are planning to hold an information evening this autumn if this is possible under government guidelines.
